Graduate Marketing Assistant Job Description: Sculptor Christine Baxter and Painter Alex Brown jointly run Court Robert Arts, an Art Venue located in Raglan. Both Christine and Alex exhibit and have their Studios at Court Robert, a converted farm complex with outbuildings, courtyard and gardens, in a beautiful rural location.
Now a centre for creative visual arts, Court Robert Arts specialize in sculpture, painting, drawing and ceramics. Plus, Lemon Studios Art School has recently opened its doors at the venue, alongside its already established garden exhibition. As well as selling Christine and Alex’s work, Court Robert exhibits and represents a number of other artists. At Lemon Studios, Alex teaches weekly painting and drawing classes, whilst Christine runs creative clay craft sessions.
The successful candidate will be passionately interested in a broad spectrum of the visual arts, helping to market and promote the business as a whole. You’ll be marketing the work of Christine, Alex and other artists, as well as promoting Lemon Studios art classes throughout the year. Around 70% of the work will be computer-based, using a variety of social media platforms, updating the website frequently, using photoshop or similar to design posters and marketing materials. Therefore good design and literacy skills are desired. Court Robert will also be running various events, so good planning and organization skills are a must.
Court Robert Arts also frequently receives online orders for sculpture, therefore booking couriers for mail orders and keeping updated records of sales is important for the business.
Open on a daily basis with courses and various events throughout the year, you’ll have to be a friendly face that can meet, greet and talk about the work on display with visitors – and telling them how wonderful the classes are too!
Court Robert Arts is a small business that is multifaceted and developing, building a reputation for itself in Monmouthshire. Your tasks will vary day-to-day, one day you could be marketing art classes and the next you’re wrapping up sculptures. Flexibility and an open mind are essential to the role – this is a six-month fixed term position with a good future, allowing you to learn and grow with the job. This is an ideal post for a recent graduate who’s looking for their first step into a career in arts administration. Our previous employee, after staying with us for three years, went on to a job in the marketing and PR department of the National Gallery in London.
Hear from our most recent employee who has recently left us for a bigger role – “If you’re looking for a role that you can learn and develop in, this is a great opportunity. I was the usual grad student, stuck after finishing University and struggling to find a job due to lack of experience. The working environment at Court Robert Arts is wonderfully relaxed and informal, but you still have to make sure you get things done. Christine is always on hand to guide and help in any way she can, and both Christine and Alex are supportive employers – even when I told them I was leaving! It’s a great job to grow and develop in, with the opportunities to start a career in Marketing, Arts Administration, or even PR.”
